The Leyland Guardian has rightly drawn our attention to the dismal attendance record of some councillors particularly new Tory Councillors. Indeed the Tory leader Margaret Smith was asked at the begining of this council to publish the attendance record on the Council web site but refused. She will be asked again.
The concern is that all these councillors are drawing over £1500 each in allowances regardless of their record and a panel of three citizens is currently meeting to decide what increase they will receive (the first for five years). Should a councillor who puts in his statutory one attendance in 6 months still qualify for these enhanced allowances? Would it not be better if a system of payment for attendance was introduced .
